Microphone and speaker check
Four short checks, each started by you: the microphone level, whether it hears your speaker, a singing check and a clapping check. The sound stays in this browser tab and is never saved or sent.
1. Microphone
The browser asks for the microphone when you press the button, not before. It listens for 5 seconds and shows the level, then closes.
2. Speaker and headphones (4 seconds)
3 short tones play while the microphone listens. This shows whether the microphone can hear your speaker, which tells you if headphones are on or the sound is going somewhere else.
3. Singing check
A 4-note phrase plays. Then the microphone opens: keep quiet for half a second, and sing the phrase back on "la" within 4 seconds. Lower voices can sing an octave down.
4. Clapping check
The screen counts one bar in. Then clap on every beat for 4 bars, a little louder on beat 1. Nothing plays, so the microphone hears only you.
5 of 10. Raise it if soft claps are missed; lower it if a noisy room makes extra claps.

What the checks tell you
A level that moves when you sing means the microphone is working. If the speaker check hears nothing and you are not wearing headphones, check the volume and where the sound is going. The singing and clapping checks use the same marking as the tests; the rules are on how it works. When everything works, go to the trainer.
